Featuring poems and short stories written between 2010 and 2013, The Night is Starry: A Collection of Poems and Short Stories is a composition regarding mental illness, family, fear, longing, love, lust, community, discovery, and the wonder of the night. It contains stories of local interest, tales of teenage woe, and the abstract of the world through a child’s eyes.
Each piece was written for a different purpose, some of them personal, some of them not. A few of them have won prizes and awards, some of them are published in other places, and others have been living in a desk drawer for three years with the dust and lint.
This is a book meant for all the times Libby’s grandmother asks her to print off a copy of a poem.
The title is a reference to the famous painting by Van Gogh, Starry Night, which he painted from the view outside of the window of his cell at the insane asylum he once stayed at.
